Where did the Cichlasoma oblongum go?

Many aquarists had the popular Cichlasoma oblongum in their aquariums when it came in the hobby. And it was a very popular fish to keep indeed.

But where did it go?

Many are now searching for it. It is like it has disappeared. And if you search for it in the genus Cichlasoma it’s not there anymore. So where is it?

I’ve written about a similar cichlid species, by name only, not appearance, but that was not the fish aquarists where looking for. I’ve been asked about it. So here I’m going to tell you where it has gone.

First of all, this is how it looks like:

This is now in another genus then the former Cichlasoma.

It has been moved to the genus Australoheros. So if you’re looking for the popular and now very rare oblongum cichlid, you should search for it as Australoheros oblongum. It’s native habitat is in the rivers of Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay. It grows to be 15cm (6in) in total length. Good luck finding this beautiful fish!

I apologise for the late blog input. I was not felling so great yesterday. As many of you know, I’m still ill and fighting something unknown that I will get more information about on Thursday after my examination at a specialist clinic.

As always, thank you very much for all your support! REMEMBER to LIKE and SUBSCRIBE!

Cheers!
